Important Announcement

Update: September 2020

As the Graduate Activity Fee Allocation committee (GAFAC) reconvenes this semester, GAFAC is committed to supporting graduate students while still adhering to the university policies. The University of Miami continues to monitor government and public health recommendations, this will call for flexibility in response to changing developments, as we accommodate the challenges our Canes community will face. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, travel increases the chances of getting infected and spreading COVID-19 and should be avoided whenever possible.

Given the unpredictable nature of COVID-19 spread and the inherent risks associated with traveling, Graduate student travel will not be permitted during the fall 2020 semester.

We recognize these travel restrictions may be disappointing to many; however, the health and safety of our community is top priority.

As such, GAFAC is responding to the new challenges by moving all processes virtually and funding virtual conferences (registration fees) in leu of travel accommodations. All funding decisions will be in accordance with University policy and may change at any time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact GAFAC at
